3rd event, eventually:

The images used to make these drawings are taken from the Japanese film “Departures”, 2011. The original images were taken live by visitors to my studio during the third studio event (Dec 16, 2011), when the movie was screening and viewers were asked to capture single memorable moments from the ongoing narrative. Then, the captured still images were sent as the movie continued and were projected on a screen alongside the moving image. The best of the still images were made into pastel drawings and arranged again in a movie sequence, which lacks the coherence of the original story but gains a disjunctive, atmospheric, emotional way of telling a story.

First assignment for sculpture (and first sculpture in a very long time)

industrial designers’ studio tour, Jaffa

And, we’re back!

Proudly joining the time-honored tradition of neglecting your blog during the summer.. but no more!

Yesterday I got a peek into some designers’ studios working in Jaffa, independent businesses run by their owners’ different ideas of where art/design meet.

Aqua Creations

these huge organic blobs are built from iron, covered with raw silk and make huge centerpieces for dramatic homes..

Designer Ayala Sarfati spins raw wool..

into amorphic soft felt creatures you can sit on..

SOMA makes light fixtures that remind you of salt or ice formations:

This weird esthetic isn’t for everyone’s living room and is also shown in museums as installations: http://www.aquagallery.com/#/Soma/Studio%20Pieces

In Pini Leibovich’s studio an inspiration wall with design mantras helps him focus and rearrange his thoughts:

In Ami Drach and Dov Ganchrow’s studio, some projects are utilitarian and green, such as their light fixtures made of discarded headlights from their neighborhood’s garages:

outside the studio a collection of headlights waits in anticipation..

An inspiring project called BC-AD reimagines man’s oldest tool in a contemporary tool design language: yellow handle, comfortable grip:

Maybe this new design will help them return to neanderthal-level popularity?

This project, with no client or deadline, is the partners’ exploration of material and function at its purest.
